Migraines and Reiki

One afternoon after lunch, I began to feel a small ache in my brain, a simmering pain that grew so imperceptibly that by the time I realized it was a migraine-in-the-making, a half-day of discomfort had already passed. I skipped dinner and went to bed early hoping to sleep it away, but woke in the middle of the night with an overwhelmingly intense, sharp pain in the center of my head. My migraine was raging.

Laying down flat in my bed, I began to channel reiki to my head and felt immediately that there was inflammation. My hands sent large quantities of yin energy out and I could feel its icy-ness dousing my head. After 5-10 minutes, the pain subsided about 80%. And then a quiet, gentle flow of warm reiki energy began the process of healing and normalizing the energy in my head. After another 10 minutes, the pain was reduced to 10% of what it had been before the treatment and I could finally go to sleep.

I have found that reiki works well to provide relief for my migraines, but not tension headaches or sinus headaches. Those types of headaches are rooted in muscle tightness and causes which are not directly energy-related. For tension headaches, I use head and neck massage. For sinus headaches and pressure, I do a nasal sinus rinse. Afterwards, I place a steaming, hot towel on my sinuses. The towel has been dipped in a bowl of very, very hot water and wrung. I then place the towel directly on my face over the sinus cavities around my nose and forehead. The steam and the warmth of the towel help loosen up the mucous inside. I also inhale the hot steam being released from hot water by using a towel to cover the open space between the bowl and my face. Once the mucous is cleared, I feel noticeably better.

For staying healthy, reiki is another tool, albeit a very powerful one. If I didn’t have reiki that night to help me treat the migraine, I cannot imagine the kind of pain I would have had to endure before a pill could take effect.
